BUILDING STRENGTHS

BUILDING STRENGTHS IN KIDS

Building strengths for kids involves a simple message:

All children deserve to be recognised and celebrated for their strengths.

Strengths help children learn, grow and become the best they can be.

Children thrive with encouragement;

they blossom when their strengths and efforts are noticed.

Focus on what kids can do, instead of what they cannot do.

We can turn “difficulties” that children are experiencing, into strengths that they are “developing.”

We notice children’s strengths and watch them benefit and grow.

One way to solve a problem is to start with … strengths.

Our Innovative Resource uses funny, serious, quiet, big, small and outrageous animal characters.

They get up to all kinds of things!

Each one demonstrates strengths.

Strengths are surprising (often hidden within until we discover its there).

Strengths are within everyone.  And strengths are the basis of our resilience, our greatest assets when things get tough.

Strengths are magnetic; strengths teach us more strengths!

Strengths are contagious.  If we see someone displaying a strength, we become inspired to try it out too.

Strengths are made up of actions, and so this means we can practice and practice.  And we become “that kind of person…”

Children learn by example, so we adults, (as well as the schools, the community, the physical environment) can kindly remind children to notice the strengths of adults around them.

Remember, we are affected by what we notice.  Let’s not focus too much on what we do wrong.  We don’t want kids to lose confidence and become afraid to make the mistakes that lead to learning.

We aim for children to SPEAK the language of strengths!  And this resource activity promotes just that!

This resource also promotes stories, feelings and empathy.

Recognising our own strengths builds self-esteem and helps develop resilience and optimism.

Just remember, we as adults…

Which strengths do you wish to be a role model for in your own child’s life?

I speak the language of “strengths”
