Emotional Wellbeing Workshops

Early Learning Centre Emotional Wellbeing Program

In the early years, children are learning far more than what we can see.

They are learning how to recognise emotions, respond to challenges, connect with others and make sense of the world around them.

Our Early Learning Centre Emotional Wellbeing Program supports young children in developing emotional awareness, practical coping skills, self-regulation, resilience and confidence through engaging, developmentally appropriate experiences.

A 10-Week Program That Builds Skills Over Time

The program is usually delivered as a 10-week program, with one session each week, allowing children to gradually learn, practise and build upon their emotional wellbeing skills.

Rather than introducing children to these concepts in a single session, the weekly format provides opportunities for repetition, reinforcement and continued development.

The program is facilitated by Christian Dounis, Psychotherapist, Clinical Counsellor and Clinical Hypnotherapist, who has extensive experience supporting children and young people.

Sessions are interactive, play-based and adapted to the developmental needs of the children within the group.

What Makes This Different

Rather than focusing only on behaviour, we help children understand what’s happening inside:

  • recognising and naming feelings
  • understanding body signals
  • noticing how emotions can influence thoughts and behaviour
  • learning what they can do in those moments

When children begin to understand the connection between what they feel, what their body is communicating and what they can do next, they can begin developing more supportive ways of responding.

The focus is not simply on telling children how to behave. It is about helping them develop the awareness and skills to better understand and manage their own experiences.

What Children Learn

Across the 10 weeks, children are introduced to age-appropriate skills and experiences including:

  • emotional awareness and healthy expression
  • calming and grounding strategies
  • age-appropriate NLP-based techniques
  • recognising and responding to body signals
  • confidence in social situations
  • resilience when facing challenges
  • strategies for navigating big emotions
  • communication and relationship skills
  • practical tools children can continue using beyond the program

All sessions are designed to complement the Early Years Learning Framework (EYLF), supporting children’s identity, wellbeing, learning and communication.

The Potential Impact

When children are given practical emotional tools and opportunities to practise them consistently, the benefits can extend beyond the weekly session and into their everyday experiences.

Early Learning Centres may observe:

  • calmer and more settled environments
  • improved emotional awareness and self-regulation
  • fewer challenging behavioural moments
  • stronger peer relationships
  • increased confidence and participation
  • greater engagement and focus
  • children becoming more able to communicate what they are experiencing

Most importantly, children are beginning to develop emotional skills during a formative stage of their lives — skills they can continue to draw upon as they grow, learn and build relationships.

Bring the 10-Week Program to Your Centre

We work directly with Early Learning Centres to deliver the program within the children’s familiar learning environment.

Programs are generally delivered once a week for 10 weeks, with sessions tailored to the age, developmental stage and needs of the participating children.

If your centre is interested in supporting children’s emotional wellbeing, resilience and self-regulation in a meaningful and practical way, we would love to discuss how the program could work within your service.
