VIDEO AND PHONE SESSIONS (TELEHEALTH AND ONLINE /VIDEO THERAPY)
COVID-19 HAS BROUGHT TELEHEALTH AND ONLINE /VIDEO THERAPY INTO POPULARITY
Whilst Positive Thinking Clinic has always offered all forms of therapy /treatment delivery, physical “face to face in session” has always been most popular. Now with COVID-19 video and phone sessions are most popular. So this blog will show you how friendly Telehealth and online /video therapy actually is.
WHO BENEFITS FROM TELEHEALTH AND ONLINE /VIDEO THERAPY
Let’s be honest, its not just because of the COVID-19, its useful for those who are ill, or have been around someone who is ill, who wants to avoid being in public or who are disabled. The elderly can’t always travel, and others may just be housebound. And then you have your regular clients or move away and still want the same therapist. So, many benefit. These days you may prefer face to face, but on the day of your appointment you feel unwell…take it online even for just that session.
So for these reasons and some more, telehealth and online video therapy is a great solution.
THE IMPACT OF COVID-19 ON MENTAL WELLNESS
Make no mistake, people still need to look after their mental wellness even during the COVID-19 or other personal reasons which restrict them from face to face in session therapy.
THE CONVENIENCE OF TELEHEALTH AND ONLINE /VIDEO THERAPY
Look at the convenience of telehealth and online video therapy. You save petrol, you save travel time and you are in the convenience of your own home.
FINANCIAL ASSISTANCE FOR TELEHEALTH AND ONLINE /VIDEO THERAPY
Just make sure you look into your private health insurance and ensure that you can still be covered for telehealth and online video therapy sessions. I am noticing insurance companies are including this cover to assist with the COVID-19 crisis right now. Also ask if there are limitations and conditions to your level of cover. This way you get some answers and answers often given you peace of mind.
EFFECTIVENESS AND RELIABILITY OF TELEHEALTH AND ONLINE /VIDEO THERAPY
Telehealth and online video therapy are just as effective and reliable. I don’t need to look for research on this (although I have had a sneak peak) and yes its stated as effective and reliable too. But I am speaking of my own experience.
PROFESSIONALISM AND TELEHEALTH AND ONLINE /VIDEO THERAPY
I have had telehealth and online video therapy since the time I began in this industry. So I have the luxury of already knowing what to do and how to do it. In fact my very first client was housebound and we were forced to work from online sessions. A great experience and great outcomes each time.
DELIVERING GOOD THERAPY
I’m glad the industry is opening to this way of doing therapy. However it needs to be done right. Therapists need the proper training. Forms need to be compliant and there are lots of little things they need to do to make sure that it’s as good as a face to face session in their clinic.
So lets get excited about this wonderful solution…Online therapy (telehealth and online video therapy). But lets not forget the importance of getting a little sunshine and some exercise.
TELEHEALTH AND ONLINE /VIDEO THERAPY IS SIMPLE TO GET STARTED
All you need is a phone, computer, tablet, mobile, laptop or whatever device you have, we can make it work. You don’t need to go buy anything. Discuss what you have and we can take it from there. Lucky, on my end, I have quite a variety, so you just let me know what suits you and we can get started.
I have a clear and simple set of instructions to give you too. Do not be afraid of technology, we will use what you already use. And if you need help, just reach out and we can work it out.
I WILL HELP YOU
So if you are in lockdown, self-isolation, caring for someone, working from home or whatever the reason, I am here to help you and work through a unique treatment plan with you.
As I am a professional counsellor, clinical hypnotherapist, early childhood teacher, NLP Master, I have a unique set of skills that I use at every session (without even physically touching a client). Hence I use the same skills online (without even physically needing to touch a client). It’s the human rapport, the human connections that makes a great therapeutic session. So this becomes the most important aspect whether therapy is done in my therapy room or done online.
I dissolve issues, I teach skills to practice, etc, but the real therapy happens when you are in your real world doesn’t it? Yes it does. You may feel good at the end of our session, but I rather hear that you went away and you are now doing good because you are practicing new ways, breaking patterns, and more.
AGE IS NO LIMIT FOR TELEHEALTH AND ONLINE /VIDEO THERAPY
Any age can use such technology. I have been zooming with kids, face timing with adults, doxy.me with those who are not so keen on downloading software, and using more. Of course we follow rules and cyber safety with kids (and this is all discussed with parents before session).
FEELING CONNECTED WITH TELEHEALTH AND ONLINE /VIDEO THERAPY
How nice it is to connect and feel great. To know that receiving therapy is now closer and more accessible than ever. The COVID-19 has certainly changed the way we behave. And it has now changed the options for seeking and delivering therapy.
Don’t suffer any longer. Reach out. Make a phone call. Make an appointment to your therapist. Keep an eye on your mental health. Look after the elderly. And be aware of your kids, as they have ears and eyes. They absorb their environment. Right now their environment is the TV in the background with the constant news on, your phone call conversations to your loved ones and friends, your discussions all around.
SAFETY AND COVID-19
I like to say that we are safe at home for now. I also like to say that all we need to do is listen to the experts and comply with the government rules (local and federal) and this places us in the “solution” area, not the “problem” area. So go on and feel great that what you do is part of the solution.
We are all in it together and we will all come out of it together. But we will bring with us some devastation and sad stories. We will recover. This will soon be in the past. Let’s not forget to notice the good that occurs. Look at the community come together to do their bit to keep us safe and minimise local transmission. Therapy on the other hand, however may continue to thrive online. Who knows.
Telehealth and online video therapy is actually a convenience, not an inconvenience. Just like online shopping is a convenience.
THE VALUE OF TELEHEALTH AND ONLINE /VIDEO THERAPY
I keep my fees the same whether its in session or telehealth and online video therapy. Sometimes I feel that telehealth and online video therapy should cost more because if you are a dedicated therapist like I am, lots of planning and analysis goes into these sessions to get even better outcomes. I hope I speak for all therapists. Its important that each session is valued and planned for in the most professional manner with all season protocols followed.
QUALITY OF TELEHEALTH AND ONLINE /VIDEO THERAPY
One thing I notice while doing telehealth and online video therapy, is I utilise a lot more of my resources and techniques. I even give more tasking to do. We plan how to maintain contact and schedule accountability calls or emails. So yes, my telehealth and online video therapy session are more intense. I guess that’s a good thing for those wondering if they should give it a go.
LOVING HYPNOTHERAPY AND TELEHEALTH AND ONLINE /VIDEO THERAPY
Just a note on hypnotherapy. Well isn’t it just so refreshing to know that it can be delivered online with confidence in the comfort of your own home. Again there are requirements and conditions to follow and this is all discussed prior to session. From stop smoking, to weight loss, focus and concentration, confidence, habits, fears and more. The list goes on and on. In fact everything I do in a normal face to face session is still what I do with telehealth and online video therapy.
MINDFULNESS MEDITATIONS AND TELEHEALTH AND ONLINE /VIDEO THERAPY
Lets not forget meditations, they are a breath of freshness when conducted online. Your familiar environment and headsets contribute to a level of comfort as you listen to a calm guiding voice.
AS WELL AS OUR CURRENT PANDEMIC CRISIS IS OUR INNER CRISIS
Whats current right now and what’s relevant. Anxiety has increased because of the fear of COVID-19. Our kids are being home schooled. Each family has its own struggles now whether it’s home schooling, or just feeling so restricted. Kids don’t always understand why they can’t go out and play with their friends. More online situations are happening. Imaging what this is doing to the brain. Then we have the university students and the high school students who have been impacted or shall I say disturbed from their usual learning.
Just this paragraph is enough to show the deep end we were thrown into. But we know how to swim. Sometimes we need floaties to help us. Sometimes someone needs to through a life ring. Sometimes we need to reach out.
SLOWING DOWN OR RUSHING … WHICH DO YOU PREFER?
May you all have happy days ahead as we all learn to slow down. Its funny that months ago (before COVID-19) we would complain that we are rushing and there is no time for ourselves. Now we have spare time. We become uncomfortable with this. Perhaps we dont know that its ok to sit and be with our families. We have permission to be slow down. To sleep in. Do less. Not to not rush. Take advantage of this I say. For it won’t last.
Click here for a great read from Katie Holmes on stress relief, where you will find some fantastic comments from different therapists, psychologists, social workers and others, who have shared on how to overcome stress. Some of the things people have brought up so far:
- Practice deep breathing exercises
- Develop strong relationships and let yourself be surrounded by your loved ones
- Practice mindfulness
- Take a trip in your mind with guided imagery
- Disconnect from technology
In no time at all you shall be back to your usual self, rushing around. You will look back at this time and not believe that you didn’t want to stay home and rest.
I wish you all good health and wellness. I offer my sincere condolences to those who were so greatly impacted by this pandemic. And I encourage you to reach out for your mental health. Its your inner child, so look after it.
If you feel you could benefit from telehealth and online video therapy find a therapist that is right for you. Perhaps reach out to your previous therapist and see what they offer.
